Terms of Service

1. Description of Service

Local Tone is an AI-powered drafting tool designed to analyse text and provide region-specific language corrections and coaching. The Service utilises third-party Large Language Models (LLMs) to process text. You acknowledge that AI-generated output may occasionally contain errors, inaccuracies, or inappropriate suggestions. You are solely responsible for reviewing and verifying any corrected text before using it in professional or personal communications.

2. Accounts and Security

To use the Service, you must register for an account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account. If you suspect unauthorised access, you must notify us immediately.

3. Subscriptions, Payments, and Refunds

Local Tone offers Free, Starter, and Pro tiers. Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis.

• Payment Processing: All payments are processed securely via our merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy. We do not store your payment card details.
• Refund Policy: All purchases are final. We maintain a strict no refunds policy for subscription fees, whether for partial months or unused limits. You may cancel your subscription at any time via the billing portal, and your access will remain active until the end of your current billing period.

4. Free Tier and Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)

Users on the Free tier must supply their own API key (e.g., Claude, OpenAI, Gemini) to process drafts. You are entirely responsible for the security of your API key, your usage limits, and any costs incurred directly with your chosen LLM provider. Local Tone is not liable for unauthorised usage or unexpected charges billed to your external API accounts.

5. User Content

You retain all ownership rights to the drafts you submit to the Service ("User Content"). By submitting text, you grant us a limited license to process, encrypt, and store this text solely for the purpose of providing the Service, tracking your correction patterns, and generating coaching reports. We do not use your drafts to train AI models.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Submit highly sensitive, classified, or regulated data (e.g., protected health information or financial credentials).
• Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or extract the underlying prompts, source code, or algorithms of the Service.
• Share a single paid account among multiple individuals.
• Engage in any activity that disrupts or degrades the performance of our infrastructure.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account immediately, without notice or refund, if you violate these Acceptable Use terms.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Local Tone and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of or inability to use the Service. The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

8. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
